The International Code Council (ICC), Fire Inspector I - 66 certification validates the skills and knowledge of candidates who perform building inspections for compliance with all federal, state and local fire codes and standards and identify violations and deficiencies. The Fire Inspector understands general fire safety provisions, determines safe building occupancy numbers and evaluates the operational readiness of existing fire protection systems, including emergency exits, alarms, and sprinkler systems. In addition, the Fire Inspector identifies problems relating to construction type, height and area limitations, interior finish and occupancy type and knows appropriate processes as applied to general code compliance when conducting a fire inspections and handling of regulated materials. Candidates must pass a written exam.

RECERTIFICATION

Fire Inspector I - 66

Renewal Period: 3 years

The Fire Inspector I - 66 credential has the following recertification information:

  • ICC certifications are valid for three years. Recertification requires earning Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) and paying a recertification fee. Half of all CEUs earned for recertification must be obtained from either ICC or an ICC Preferred Provider.

Additional considerations for the Fire Inspector I - 66 include:

  • Candidate should possess the right mix of technical knowledge, education and related experience. Proper weighting of these three qualifications is a subjective decision that is performed at the local level. For this reason, ICC does not specify education or experience requirements for candidates in most categories. Additional information can be obtained from the ICC Exam Catalog page.
  • Successfully passing this exam in combination with other specific exams and requirements may allow a candidate to obtain a combination designation. A combination designation is granted automatically through a candidate's myICC account once all prerequisites are met and all exams have been passed. Visit the ICC's Combination Designations page to learn more about earning a designation.
