The Society of Broadcast Engineers, Inc (SBE), Certified AM Directional Specialist is an intermediate-level credential. SBE Specialist crtifications require that candidates hold an SBE Engineer certification- the Broadcast Engineer, Senior Broadcast Engineer or Professional Broadcast Engineer Certification. The AM Directional Specialist certification evaluated an individual's ability to perform the necessary tasks to keep facilities operating properly. Candidates must have knowledge of AM radiators, understanding of the principles of phase addition and cancellation, familiarity with the various components used in a directional antenna system, and ability to correctly make necessary measurements and take proper procedures to make repairs and adjustments to the system. Candidates must pass an exam.

Renewal Period: 5 years

The AM Directional Specialist (AMD) credential has the following recertification information:

  • The AM Directional Specialist is valid for a period of five (5) years. To ensure technical competence, he or she must participate in the Maintenance of Certification Program. Specialist Certifications are renewable with their host certifications for a modest fee. When applying for recertification of the host certification, candidates should indicate their desire to recertify their specialist certification and include the additional fee; no other action is required. Current Coast Guard policy states all credentials listed on CG COOL may be reimbursed assuming the enlisted service member meets the eligibility requirements as outlined in the Coast Guard Voluntary Credentialing Program Policy (COMDTINST 1540.1(series))
