International Association for Identification (IAI),Tenprint Fingerprint Certification is designed for individuals who are currently working in the field of tenprint matters. Tenprint Fingerprint Certification recognizes an applicant's knowledge of tenprint examinations, historical and current tenprint guidelines and standards, the history, foundation and scientific methodology used in Friction Ridge Science, and current topics and/or scientific studies within the tenprint discipline. Applicants should be able to compare friction ridge impressions of known to unknown subjects and arrive at a conclusion based on current objectively accepted methodology, recognize and interpret friction ridge impressions, and accurately record a complete tenprint record. Eligibility requirements for Tenprint Fingerprint Certification include formal education, technical training, experience, and two letters of endorsement. Applicants must pass an exam and submit a personally recorded tenprint record.

Applicants must be actively engaged as an examiner, analyst, practitioner or supervisor in the discipline of Forensic Science whose duties include the discipline of friction ridge examination.

Applicants must have a minimum of two years of full-time experience in the examination of tenprints and other tenprint-related matters.

Option 1:

Minimum of an Associate's degree or documentation of 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of college credit

Option 2:

Experience can be substituted for the two-year college degree requirement at a rate of one year of full-time experience as a tenprint examiner for one year of college (in addition to the required two years of experience as a full-time tenprint examiner).

Applicants must have acquired a minimum of 80 hours of IAI Tenprint Certification Board approved training in tenprint related subject matter. The 80 hours of training must include a minimum of 16 hours of Board approved training in courtroom testimony.

The Tenprint Fingerprint Certification credential has the following other requirements:

  • Applicants must submit two letters of endorsement from employers/supervisors or individuals who have knowledge of the applicant's experience as it relates to the tenprint fingerprint field.
  • Applicants must be of good moral character, high integrity, good repute, and must possess a high ethical and professional standing.
  • At the time of exam date, applicants must submit a tenprint record that was personally recorded within the prior 90 days. The applicant's name and the date the prints were rolled must be recorded on the tenprint card.

RECERTIFICATION

Tenprint Fingerprint Certification

Renewal Period: 5 years

The Tenprint Fingerprint Certification credential has the following recertification information:

  • Tenprint Fingerprint Certification is renewed every five years by accumulating 80 continuing education/professional development credits, passing a recertification exam, paying a recertification fee, and adhering to the IAI Code of Ethics. Candidates for recertification must also be currently working in the field of Forensic Science with duties that include the examination of tenprints and other tenprint-related matters.

  • Note: Marine Corps COOL will only pay recertification fees for the current billing cycle. Voucher requests for recertification fees must be submitted with proof of the current status of the certification (for example, a screen shot of your credentialing agency dashboard or a copy of a current fee receipt).
