Education and/or Experience REQUIREMENTS

Option 1:

Candidate with or in an HR-related program that is less than a bachelor's degree must have three years of experience in an HR role.

Option 2:

Candidate with or in a non-HR program that is less than a bachelor's degree must have four years of experience in an HR role.

Option 3:

Candidate with an HR-related bachelor's degree must have one year of experience in an HR role.

Option 4:

Candidate with a non-HR bachelor's degree must have two years of experience in an HR role.

Option 5:

Candidate with an HR-related graduate degree must currently be working in an HR role.

Option 6:

Candidate with a non-HR graduate degree must have one year of experience in an HR role.

Note: Less than a bachelor’s degree includes working toward a bachelor’s degree, associate degree, some college, qualifying HR certificate program, high school diploma, or GED.

Testing Information

  • Exam Administration

    Credential exams may be administered in-person at a testing site, proctored on-line remotely, or have options for both. If an exam is administered through a test vendor, the third-party test vendor box will be checked. RECERTIFICATION

SHRM - Certified Professional (SHRM-CP)

Renewal Period: 3 years

The SHRM - Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential has the following recertification information:

  • To recertify, SHRM-CP certification holders must earn 60 Professional Development Credits (PDCs) within a three-year recertification period or retake the certification exam within the last year of the three-year recertification cycle. SHRM-CP certification holders must also pay a recertification application fee.
  • Note: Marine Corps COOL will only pay recertification fees for the current year, no arrears will be paid. Voucher requests for recertification fees must be submitted with proof of the current status of the certification (for example, a screen shot of your credentialing agency dashboard or a copy of a current fee receipt).

Star

Star credentials are MOS enhancing, as designated by the Proponent. MOS enhancing credentials are directly related to an MOS or ASI, are taught either partially or completely as part of a Program of Instruction (POI), and improves the MOS technical proficiency.

CG Bucks

Current Coast Guard policy states all credentials listed on CG COOL may be reimbursed assuming the enlisted service member meets the eligibility requirements as outlined in the Coast Guard Voluntary Credentialing Program Policy (COMDTINST 1540.1(series))
