Experience REQUIREMENTS
Candidate must have a minimum of 320 hours active participation in performing gamma radiography and a minimum of 160 hours of active participation in performing X-ray radiography. Experience must be acquired under the control of a license or registration granted by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) or Agreement State for radioisotopes, or by a jurisdictional authority for X-ray.
Education/Training and/or Experience REQUIREMENTS
Candidate must complete 40 hours of formal classroom instruction in the radiation safety topics described in 10 CFR 34.43(g).
Option 2:Candidate must complete 28 hours of web-based training combined with 12 hours of classroom or laboratory training covering the hands-on portion of the training. The hands-on training shall include, but not be limited to, the use, operation, calibration, and limitations of radiation survey instruments; survey techniques; and use of personnel monitoring equipment.

Practical Exam
The practical examination requires the candidate to adequately demonstrate the ability to safely operate the radiation producing equipment in at least one technique for which ASNT IRRSP certification is sought. The practical examination is administered by either a current Radio Safety Officer (RSO) or their appointed representative of an institution recognized by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) and is licensed or registered by a regulatory authority to conduct industrial radiography.

Additional considerations for the Industrial Radiography Radiation Safety Personnel - X-Ray and RAM (IRSSP-Combo) include:
Acceptance of the IRRSP radiation safety certification within a state is solely at the discretion of the state in question. However, states that do recognize “approved certifying entities” will accept the IRRSP certifications because ASNT is an approved Certifying Entity.
