The Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC), GIAC Python Coder (GPYC), certification validates a practitioner's understanding of core programming concepts, and the ability to write and analyze working code using the Python programming language. GPYC practitioners have demonstrated knowledge of common python libraries, creating custom tools, collecting information about a system or network, interacting with websites and databases, and automating testing. GPYC is ideal for Information security professionals; Python developers; Forensic analysts; Network detectors; and Penetration testers. There are no prerequisites to be eligible for the exam. Candidates must pass a written exam.

    Credential exams may be administered in-person at a testing site, proctored on-line remotely, or have options for both. If an exam is administered through a test vendor, the third-party test vendor box will be checked. RECERTIFICATION

GIAC Python Coder (GPYC)

Renewal Period: 4 years

The GIAC Python Coder (GPYC) credential has the following recertification information:

  • The GIAC Python Coder (GPYC) certification is renewed every four years. GPYC certification holders must either obtain 36 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits or take the current version of the GCTI certification exam during each recertification cycle. A recertification fee is required.

  • Note: Marine Corps COOL will only pay recertification fees for the current year, no arrears will be paid. Voucher requests for recertification fees must be submitted with proof of the current status of the certification (for example, a screen shot of your credentialing agency dashboard or a copy of a current fee receipt).

Additional considerations for the GIAC Python Coder (GPYC) include:

  • The Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) exams are open book format. Candidate is allowed to bring hardcopy books and notes into the testing room.

CG Bucks

Current Coast Guard policy states all credentials listed on CG COOL may be reimbursed assuming the enlisted service member meets the eligibility requirements as outlined in the Coast Guard Voluntary Credentialing Program Policy (COMDTINST 1540.1(series))
