Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC), Network Forensic Analyst (GNFA) is an advanced level certification that recognizes a candidate's ability to perform examinations employing network forensic artifact analysis. GNFA candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals of network forensics, normal and abnormal conditions for common network protocols, the process and tools used to examine device and system logs, wireless communication and encrypted protocols. GNFA does not require any prerequisites or specific training. GNFA candidates are required to pass a written exam.

RECERTIFICATION

GIAC Network Forensic Analyst (GNFA)

Renewal Period: 4 years

The GIAC Network Forensic Analyst (GNFA) credential has the following recertification information:

  • GIAC certifications are valid for four years. Certification holders are required to submit a total of 36 CPEs for each GIAC certification renewal or may take the current exam. Additional information can be found in the GIAC Certification Renewal How-To Guide.

  • Note: Marine Corps COOL will only pay recertification fees for the current year, no arrears will be paid. Voucher requests for recertification fees must be submitted with proof of the current status of the certification (for example, a screen shot of your credentialing agency dashboard or a copy of a current fee receipt).

Additional considerations for the GIAC Network Forensic Analyst (GNFA) include:

  • GNFA certification does not require any prerequisites or specific training. Practical experience, self-study, college level courses, and courses from training providers, including SANS Institute, are options for acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary for certification.

Star

CG Bucks

Current Coast Guard policy states all credentials listed on CG COOL may be reimbursed assuming the enlisted service member meets the eligibility requirements as outlined in the Coast Guard Voluntary Credentialing Program Policy (COMDTINST 1540.1(series))
