The National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET), Fire Protection: Fire Alarm Systems – Level IV is for engineering technicians working in the fire alarm industry who engage in a combination of the following fire alarm systems activities: layout (plan preparation), equipment selection, installation, acceptance testing, troubleshooting, servicing, and technical sales. Level IV technicians lead multiple projects at once, interpret codes and standards, train and supervise Level I, II and III technicians and function as a liaison between the players in a project. Candidates must meet experience requirements and pass a written exam.

Credential Pre-requisite REQUIREMENTS
Candidate must meet the Fire Alarm Systems- Level I, II, III requirements.
Education and/or Experience REQUIREMENTS
Candidate must have at least ten years of fire detection and signaling systems experience. Of this:
- At least 45 months of fire alarm systems experience is required. Work history must cover technical business management and/or or a management role in installation, maintenance, inspection, testing, commissioning, technical system estimating and sales, plan preparation, and/or code compliance review.
- At least two years of overseeing fire alarm systems project management, and up to 15 months of related experience are required.
Candidate who has earned a degree in an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited engineering technology or engineering program (or equivalent) directly related to certification practice area may qualify to receive up to 18 months of credit towards the work experience requirement. Other REQUIREMENTS
The Fire Protection: Fire Alarm Systems - Level IV credential has the following other requirements:
- Candidate must provide a personal recommendation showing his or her ability for performing senior engineering technician responsiblities. Candidate must also provide a detailed description of a major fire alarm system project of which he or she had senior responsibility.
- Candidate required to obtain a Supervisor's Performance Verification of meeting the experience and training requirement as described in the candidate application. For details, see the NICET Fire Alarm Systems Engineering Technician Certification Application Package.
- Candidate must agree to adhere to the NICET Code of Ethics.
