The Association of Government Accountants (AGA), Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) is an entry-level to mid-level professional certification recommended for government financial managers. The CGFM certifies an individual's knowledge of governmental accounting, auditing, financial reporting, internal controls and budgeting at the federal, state and local levels. CGFM candidates must have at least two years of professional-level experience in government financial management. Candidates must meet education and experience requirements. Candidates must pass three comprehensive CGFM exams.

Education REQUIREMENTS
Candidate must have a bachelor's degree in any subject area from an accredited U.S. college or university.
Experience REQUIREMENTS
A CGFM candidate must have at least two years of professional-level experience in government financial management. The experience requirement is not a prerequisite to sit for the examinations; however, it is a requirement to become a CGFM.
