MOS Description

Support Equipment Electrician/Refrigeration and Engine/Gas Turbine Technicians inspect, test, maintain, and repair aircraft support equipment (SE), electrical/refrigeration and engine/gas turbine systems and systems components. Perform duties related to the operation of support equipment. Perform duties related to the licensing of aircraft maintenance personnel in the operation of support/special support equipment.

Candidates must pass a NATE core exam and air conditioning service specialty exam. This certification is not intended for the HVAC system designer, sales force, or engineering community.

Renewal Period: Lifetime

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), DOD/EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (Universal) is a requirement under EPA regulations 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F, under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act. This regulation requires that technicians who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of equipment that could release ODS refrigerants into the atmosphere must be certified. Technicians that service all types of equipment should be certified as a Universal Technician. Technicians are required to pass an EPA-approved exam to earn Section 608 Technician Certification. Exams must be administered by an EPA-approved certifying organization. There are no eligibility requirements to sit for the exam, but training is available through EPA-approved certifying organizations.
