MOS 5951 Aviation Meteorological Equipment Technician, OMA/IMA

MOS Description

Aviation Meteorological Equipment Maintenance Technicians survey, site, and install air traffic control meteorological equipment. Make periodic inspections and perform preventive maintenance. Tune, adjust, and align systems for proper operation. Use proper safety procedures in system maintenance and operation. Diagnose and isolate malfunction to the fault, remove and replace the fault, and verify that the malfunction has been corrected. Participate in and provide technical assistance during system flight inspections. Maintain tools, support, and test equipment. Assist in maintaining the maintenance technical library. Assist in maintaining accountability of all parts of the system, including spare parts, and in requisitioning supplies and spare parts. They process and pack system components for storage or shipment. Train subordinates or less qualified personnel. Maintain necessary records of maintenance and compile data for reports. Assist ATC Maintenance Personnel in MOS 5952, 5953, and 5954. Must possess a working knowledge of all Navy sponsored aviation maintenance programs and processes governed by reference (ad).

The Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-I), RADAR Electronics Technician (RAD) is a journeyman-level certification recommended for radar electronics technicians with knowledge of radar basics and concepts applicable to all types of avionics, maritime and land systems. RADAR Electronics Technicians must be knowledgeable and have abilities in technical and human relations areas including, Block Diagrams and Schematics, Components, Cabling and Antennas, Hand Tools & Soldering, Mathematics, Amplifiers, RADAR Transceivers, Interfacing, Satellite, Wireless, and Data Communications, Computers and Digital Concepts, Software Programming, Troubleshooting, and People Relations. Candidates must hold the Associate Electronics Technician (CETa) certification prior to taking the RADAR exam. Individuals with a valid FCC Element 8, and either the ETA Associate CET (CETa) or a Journeyman (CET) certification, are eligible for a rollover to an ETA RADAR certification. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), A+ certification validates the entry-level computer technician's competency to perform a myriad of critical IT support tasks. CompTIA A+ technicians demonstrate skills in networking, hardware, virtualization and cloud computing, network and software troubleshooting, installing and configuring operating systems, security, and operational procedures. Candidates must pass both the Core 1 (220-1001) and Core 2 (220-1002) exams.

The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), Network+ is an intermediate skill level certification for technicians working with current networking technologies. The Network+ technician demonstrates an understanding of key cloud computing best practices and typical service models, critical security concepts, newer virtualization and hardware techniques, and skills needed to maintain network resilience. Network+ is appropriate for computer network technicians, engineers, analysts, and administrators. Candidates should meet recommended experience guidelines and must pass a written exam.

The American Meteorological Society (AMS), Certified Consulting Meteorologist (CCM) credential is an advanced-level certification for weather and meteorology experts. Meteorological consulting may involve providing services on a fee basis or serving a company, government agency, or academic institution where their work comprises part or all of the meteorologist's functions. Candidates must meet specific education and experience requirements. Candidates must pass both a written and oral exam.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Aircraft Dispatcher certification is for individuals who exercise responsibility with the pilot in command in the operational control of a flight. Aircraft Dispatchers assist in planning flight paths, taking into account aircraft performance and loading; enroute winds; thunderstorm and turbulence forecasts; airspace restrictions; and airport conditions. Aircraft Dispatchers usually share responsibility for the exercise of operational control, which gives them the authority to divert, delay, or cancel a flight. Candidates must meet the training and experience eligibility requirements as listed in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Candidates must pass a written and practical exam.

The American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS), Certified Remote Sensing Technologist credential is for candidates who perform or supervise tasks to manipulate, extract, interpret, process and convert remotely sensed data, including photographic or digital imagery. Although routine, the work is technical and demands a high degree of skill. Candidates must meet experience requirements. Candidates must pass a written exam following peer review and approval.

The Security+ validates the baseline skills needed to perform core security functions, incorporating best practices in hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Candidates demonstrate the ability to evaluate and implement security solutions for an enterprise environment, monitor and secure hybrid environments, understand laws and policies, and identify, analyze, and respond to security events and incidents. The CBM certification exam tests candidates on their knowledge and communication of meterology and related sciences needed to be effective broadcast meterologists. Candidates must meet the minimum education and/or coursework requirements. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-1), Line and Antenna Sweep (LAS) is a frequency domain reflectometer (FDR) certification. Line and Antenna Sweep candidates must demonstrate knowledge of antenna system commissioning, radio frequency fundamentals, mathematics, coaxial cable fundamentals and installation, RF connectors, antennas, troubleshooting, and frequency domain reflectometer testing, test interpretation and operation. The LAS is a stand-alone certification but may be upgraded to a Journeyman CET by meeting additional requirements. Candidates must pass a written exam and a hands-on skills exam.

The ASTM International, NCATT Aircraft Electronics Technician (AET) certification validates the knowledge base of the advanced aerospace technician and promotes integrity, safety, and professionalism in the aerospace workforce. AET knowledge and skills include basic electronics facts, terminology, and principles, common maintenance practices, fundamentals of equipment maintenance, and aircraft fundamentals. There are no AET eligibility requirements. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-I), General Communications Technician Level 1 (GCT1) certification is an entry-level credential designed to cover the many areas encountered by radio communications technicians or engineers in the public safety communications or business/commercial radio field. The GCT1 certification is modeled after wide-ranging industry communication systems encompassing more specific detailed items along with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) guidelines covering all disciplines in the COMT program. Candidates must pass a written exam.
