MOS 4571 Combat Videographer

MOS Description

The Combat Videographer conceptualizes, acquires and produces motion imagery products using digital video cameras and editing equipment. These products support communication to internal, domestic and international audiences; commanders’ information requirements; and other operations, garrison, training, and recruiting requirements.  Typical duties include, but are not limited to: visualizing the final product desired; developing a story board; acquiring images in studio, field, and combat environments using the principles of video graphic composition; selecting and editing motion imagery; writing scripts; using close captioning, audio, graphics, and special effects; tailoring products for different audiences (i.e., internal, domestic, international) and mediums (training videos, the traditional news media, social media, face-to-face engagements, briefs, etc.); supporting administrative videography, legal, investigation, and combat documentation; digitizing and rendering video; conducting visual and electronic quality control; transmitting and archiving; performing equipment inspections and preventive maintenance.

The Society of Broadcast Engineers, Inc (SBE), Certified Broadcast Technologist (CBT) is an entry-level certification that provides knowledge for employment in the operational and technical areas of television broadcast stations, broadband distribution centers, sports stadiums, cable companies, video production studios, and other related fields by learning the installation, operation, and maintenance skills necessary in the industry. There is no experience requirement to be eligible for the examination. Candidates must achieve a passing grade on the proficiency examination.

The Society of Broadcast Engineers, Inc (SBE), Certified Broadcast Networking Technologist (CBNT) certification is an entry-level credential designed for persons who wish to demonstrate a basic familiarity with networking hardware as utilized in business and audio/video applications in broadcast facilities. The CBNT certification can be obtained by achieving a passing grade on the proficiency examination. Candidates must currently be employed in broadcast engineering or related technology.

The Electronic Document Professional (EDP) is an industry designation awarded to qualified individuals who have demonstrated broad knowledge of and experience in digital communication-whether in print, over internal networks, or online-from document creation to distribution. EDP certification ensures that the recipient has demonstrated excellence by a thorough examination of his or her work, business ethics, and overall contributions to the industry through a rigorous evaluation process. The EDP certification is awarded to individuals currently working in the electronic document industry, with a minimum of five years active work experience in the industry, who accept the EDP Code of Ethics, who earn an equivalent of 100 education credits, and submit a portfolio of actual business examples that demonstrate and document the candidate's capabilities.

A Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) performs general technology solution tasks by creating, operating and servicing network-based AV solutions, while conducting AV management activities which provide for the best audiovisual resolutions of the client's needs, both on time and within budget. Applicants must demonstrate audiovisual knowledge and/or skills, and must agree to the terms and conditions as noted in the CTS Application, which includes agreement to the CTS Code of Ethics & Conduct. Applicants must also pass an examination.

Renewal Period: Not Renewable

The International Computer Driving License (ICDL) is a basic skill level certification program that validates an individual's basic computer skills training. The ICDL is composed of modules covering computer topics. The modules are vendor neutral, i.e., not linked to a particular software firm. Candidates may select any combination of modules to create a custom program. There are no education or experience requirements and training is not mandatory.

The Certified Photogrammetric Technologist certification is designed for technicians who perform or supervise technical photogrammetric tasks to extract spatial data from photographic or digital imagery and other remotely sensed data.Candidates must have a total of three years of experience, of which two are in a specialty category. Candidates must also submit four references rom persons knowledgeable of their work experience and personal conduct, declare compliance with the Code of Ethics of the ASPRS, and successfully complete a written examination following peer review and approval.

The Society of Broadcast Engineers, Inc (SBE), Certified 8-VSB Specialist is an intermediate-level certification. Candidates must hold an SBE Engineer certification- the Broadcast Engineer, Senior Broadcast Engineer or Professional Broadcast Engineer Certification. The Certified 8 -VSB Specialist certification helps evaluate an individual's ability to perform the necessary tasks to keep facilities operating properly. Candidates must have knowledge of competency in transport stream, audio (AC-3), video (MPEG-2), PSIP, DTV standards documents and transmission systems. Candidates must pass an exam.

The PRSA Accreditation in Public Relations + Military Communication (APR+M) certification is an intermediate-level credential for military public affairs professionals. The APR+M program is a joint effort between DoD and PRSA. The APR+M aims at improving the military public affairs practice and establishing a standard of knowledge within the public affairs community that is transferable to civilian work. PRSA requires that candidates prepare responses to a panel questionnaire prior to sitting for the panel presentation; once the panel requirements are satisfied, candidates may then take the written exam.
