To earn the Undercar Specialist Exhaust Systems (X1) certification, candidates must be currently certified in both Automobile/Light Truck - Suspension and Steering (A4) and Automobile/Light Truck -Brakes (A5), have at least two years of hands-on work experience, and pass a written exam.

To earn the Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis Specialist (L2) certification, candidates must have passed one of the ASE Diesel Engine tests (A9, H2, S2, or T2) and one of the ASE Electrical/Electronic Systems tests (A6, H6, S6 or T6), have three years of relevant work experience, and pass a written exam.

Candidates must have knowledge in communications, customer and internal relations, vehicle systems knowledge, sales skills, and shop operations. To become ASE certified, candidates must pass the Service Consultant test and show proof of two years of on-the-job work experience as an automotive service writer/consultant or service manager.
