MOS 2171 Electro-Optical Ordnance Repairer

MOS Description

The Electro-Optical Ordnance Repairer performs electro-optical maintenance and repair to ground ordnance laser and night vision devices, small missiles systems, and other fire control equipment. Duties also include performing mechanical, mechanical-optical and electrical repairs to include inspecting, troubleshooting and adjusting fire control instruments and systems. The Electro-Optical Ordnance Repairer, grades Private through Corporal, also completes basic shop administrative forms and records using technical publications. At the grades of Sergeant and above, the Electro-Optical Ordnance Repairer trains, supervises, and performs various duties and tasks incident to the management of an Electro-Optical Ordnance Repair shop or facility.

The Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-I), Associate Electronics Technician (CETa) certification is an entry-level credential for electronics technicians who have less than two years of experience or who have trade school training in the field of electronics. Applicants for the CETa must meet the experience or training requirement and pass the exam.

The International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET), Certified Electronics Technician - Associate-Level is an entry-level certification. This certification validates the candidate's basic electronic knowledge for entry-level electronic professions. The exam covers basic electronics, math, DC and AC circuits, transistors and troubleshooting. The Associate CET is also a pre-requisite for ISCET Journeyman level certifications. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The Compressed Natural Gas Fuel System Inspector (CNG-FSI) certification program is designed to certify that an individual will have demonstrated proficiency in inspecting compressed natural gas vehicle fuel systems, identifying and documenting defects, and the safe handling and cleaning of fuel system components. The certification complies with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 17024 standard for personnel certification programs. There is no requirement for formal training to become a certified CNG Fuel System Inspector; however, candidates should at minimum be able to conduct a visual inspection of CNG cylinders and fuel systems to ensure their current level of safety and serviceability. Candidates must successfully pass a written examination.

Candidates must pass a written examination testing their knowledge of various electrical and electronics concepts, electronic measurement equipment, electronic components, circuitry, and other related subjects specific to direct current (DC) electronics. The EM1 credential is one in a group of five credential modules; once a technician attains all five credentials, ETA will issue the Associate CET certification.

Candidates must pass a written examination testing their knowledge of soldering, desoldering, tools, electrical conductors, AC power distribution, circuit protection, circuit controls, generators, motors, interfacing of electronics products, and technician work procedures. The EM5 credential is one in a group of five credential modules; once a technician attains all five credentials, ETA will issue the Associate CET certification.
