MOS 2171 Electro-Optical Ordnance Repairer

MOS Description

The Electro-Optical Ordnance Repairer performs electro-optical maintenance and repair to ground ordnance laser and night vision devices, small missiles systems, and other fire control equipment. Duties also include performing mechanical, mechanical-optical and electrical repairs to include inspecting, troubleshooting and adjusting fire control instruments and systems. The Electro-Optical Ordnance Repairer, grades Private through Corporal, also completes basic shop administrative forms and records using technical publications. At the grades of Sergeant and above, the Electro-Optical Ordnance Repairer trains, supervises, and performs various duties and tasks incident to the management of an Electro-Optical Ordnance Repair shop or facility.

The Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-I), Associate Electronics Technician (CETa) is an entry-level certification for technicians who have less than two years of experience or training in electronics. Associate Electronics Technicians demonstrate knowledge of basic electronic theory and applications used in all electronic disciplines including circuits, test equipment, electrical theory, work procedures and telecommunications fundamentals. The CETa is the foundation for ETA’s journeyman, senior, and master specialty, and master certification programs. CETa applicants must meet the experience or training requirement and pass a written exam. An optional practical exam is offered.

Renewal Period: 4 years

The International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET), Certified Electronics Technician - Associate-Level (Associate CET), is an entry-level certification for technicians and students with under four years of experience and validates the technician’s knowledge of basic electronics, including math, DC and AC circuts, transistors and troubleshooting. The Associate CET is also a pre-requisite for ISCET Journeyman level certifications. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The CSA Group, Compressed Natural Gas Fuel System Inspector (CNG-FSI) is an entry level certification that validates a professional's proficiency in inspecting compressed natural gas vehicle fuel systems, identifying and documenting defects, and the safely handling and cleaning fuel system components. The certification complies with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 17024 standard for personnel certification programs. Candidates must successfully pass a written examination.

The Electronics Technicians Association (ETA-I), Technician in Precision Optics (TPO) credential is for technicians employed by organizations incorporating precision optics into systems. TPOs assess bulk material uses and characteristics, to use equipment to shape, polish, and coat precision optics and to employ optical methods and instruments to verify optical component tolerances and dimensions. TPOs handle, store, and ship precision optical components. Candidates must be trained in both knowledge and practical skills. Candidates must pass both a written and a practical exam within a two-year period of each other.
