MOS 1833 Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV) Crewmember

MOS Description

An Assault Amphibious Vehicle Crewmember performs various duties related to the operation and maintenance of the AAV, to include tactical employment, gunnery using the onboard weapon systems, communications, and maneuver. AAV Crewmembers employ their vehicle in support of Infantry units during ship to objective maneuver and during subsequent operations ashore. Typical duties may include preventive and corrective maintenance, and pre-combat checks and inspections on the AAV and its associated equipment in order to support both amphibious and land operations.

Certified Electronics Technician - Journeyman-Level - Communications. This is an entry-level certification exam. Technicians working in this field will have knowledge in the following areas; communications which include 2-way transceivers and the servicing of these types of equipment. Also, Receiver's basic communication theory, transmitters, deviation, sensitivity, quieting and troubleshooting. Applicants must pass a written exam.

Renewal Period: 2 years

Certified Electronics Technician - Journeyman-Level - Radar. This is an entry-level certification exam. Technicians working in this field will have knowledge in the following areas; General knowledge of both pulse radar and continuous wave radar operation is necessary for taking this Journeyman option. This test covers transmitters and receivers, CRT display systems and their power supplies, antennas, transmission lines and their characteristics. Applicants must pass a written exam.

The United States Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is for individuals who drive certain Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs). There are three classes of CDLs with endorsements for specialized qualifications for vehicles like school buses, tank trucks, and tractor trailers. The U.S. Department of Transportation requires drivers to obtain and hold a CDL if they operate in interstate, intrastate, or foreign commerce and drive a vehicle that meets one or more of the classifications of a CMV described on the FMSCA website. FMSCA has developed and issued standards for state testing and licensing of CDL holders. These standards require state governments to issue CDLs to certain CMV drivers only after the driver passes knowledge and skills testing that is administered by the state and related to the type of vehicle the driver expects to operate.

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), Medium/Heavy Truck - Gasoline Engines (T1) certification is for individuals who possess knowledge and skills in general engine diagnosis and the diagnosis and repair of the cylinder head and valve train, engine block, lubrication and cooling systems, ignition system, fuel, air induction and exhaust systems, emissions and control systems, and computerized engine controls. To earn the Medium/Heavy Truck - Gasoline Engines (T1) certification, candidates must have at least two years of relevant hands-on work experience and pass a written exam

Vibration Analysts certified at the first level perform a range of single channel machinery vibration condition monitoring and diagnostic activities. This activity may include acquiring data on predetermined routes, testing machinery for predefined procedures, and reading comparisons alert settings. Applicants for the Category I Certified Vibration Analyst certification must meet training and experience requirements and are also required to pass an exam.

Applicants for the Category II Certified Vibration Analyst certification must meet training and experience requirements and are also required to pass an exam.
