MHTs also read industrial application schematics, perform basic cylinder and hydraulic motor calculations, and supervise system installations and commissioning. The STS is often sought by safety professionals who are first-line supervisors and managers. STS applicants must have expertise in monitoring worksites for job hazards, helping to ensure regulatory compliance occurs, training employees in safety practices, performing safety-related record keeping, coordinating corrections for safety problems within or among work groups, and communicating with safety specialists or management. Applicants must pass a written examination.

The United States Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is for individuals who drive certain Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs). There are three classes of CDLs with endorsements for specialized qualifications for vehicles like school buses, tank trucks, and tractor trailers. The U.S. Department of Transportation requires drivers to obtain and hold a CDL if they operate in interstate, intrastate, or foreign commerce and drive a vehicle that meets one or more of the classifications of a CMV described on the FMSCA website. FMSCA has developed and issued standards for state testing and licensing of CDL holders. These standards require state governments to issue CDLs to certain CMV drivers only after the driver passes knowledge and skills testing that is administered by the state and related to the type of vehicle the driver expects to operate.

The Project Management Institute (PMI), Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) is an entry-level certification for project practitioners. Designed for those with less project experience, the CAPM demonstrates an understanding of the fundamental knowledge, terminology and processes of effective project management. The written exam covers project management areas such as initiation, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, closing, and professional and social responsibility. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 1500 hours professional experience on a project team or 23 hours of project management education.

The Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP), Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT) is a certification for maintenance and reliability technicians who are responsible for preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance. CMRT candidates should possess aptitude in the following areas: maintenance practices, preventative and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting and analysis, and corrective maintenance. There are no experience or education eligibility requirements. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The Rigger Level I is qualified in a trade or craft and may hold a title as iron worker, millwright, mechanic, electrician, mason, laborer, longshoreman, boilermaker, lineman or pipe fitter. There are no prerequisites for this certification, but crane operators must be at least 18 years of age, and abide by NCCCO’s substance abuse policy and code of ethics. The Board of Certification Safety Professionals (BCSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification is an entry-level to intermediate-level construction workplace safety credential. Candidates should be responsible for securing safe and healthy conditions in construction projects or job sites. Candidates must meet minimum work experience of three years in the field of construction. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO), Rigger II certification validates a rigger’s skill and ability to handle and move loads. The certification level is based upon the rigger’s training, understanding, skills, and abilities in the areas of selection, inspection, and use of rigging equipment. The Rigger Level I certification is a prerequisite for this certification. Level I riggers performs basic, repetitive rigging tasks when the weight, center of gravity, rigging and rigging configuration are known. The Certified Rigger Level II can use rigging capacity to select rigging components and methods. Unsupervised, a Rigger Level II can: estimate load weight and center of gravity, identify lift points, determine and choose rigging based on loading, conduct pre-use inspection of rigging and lift points, use advanced knowledge to identify and attach rigging and understand load dynamics and associated hazards. Crane operators must be at least 18 years of age, and abide by NCCCO’s substance abuse policy. Candidates must pass a practical exam and a written exam.
