MOS 0431 Logistics/Embarkation Specialist

MOS Description

The Logistics/Embarkation Specialist prepares supplies and equipment for embarkation and performs various Force Deployment Planning and Execution (FDP&E) functions to support the movement of personnel, supplies, and equipment via all modes of transportation using commercial and military assets, at all levels including unit, MAGTF, and joint operations. They are trained in the application of Automated Information Systems (AIS) that are utilized throughout the Defense Transportation System (DTS) to account, track, and interface movement data with load planning programs and joint AIS to support the FDP&E process and In Transit Visibility (ITV). The Logistics/ Embarkation Specialist is trained to prepare aircraft and ship load plans that meet organizational requirements. They assist with the preparation, planning, and execution of strategic mobility plans in accordance with the Time Phased Force Deployment Data (TPFDD) used to deploy and sustain forward deployed forces. The Logistics/ Embarkation Specialist also performs multiple logistics administrative duties within the J/G/S-4 section. They compile and maintain logistics support data, compute combat logistics support requirements, and coordinate combat logistics functions in support of MAGTF operations and deployments. At the SNCO level, they will also serve as Combat Cargo Assistants (CCAs) onboard naval amphibious assault ships. MOS 0491, Logistics/Mobility Chief is assigned as the primary MOS upon promotion to Gunnery Sergeant.

The American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) certification is aimed towards professionals involved in career fields such as Production and Inventory Management, Operations, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Materials Management, and Purchasing. The CPIM certification does not have eligibility requirements at this time. Candidates must pass two exams (Part 1 and Part 2) within a three-year period to earn the CPIM certification.

The American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) is for individuals who possess the knowledge to understand and manage the integration and coordination of end-to-end supply chain activities. The CSCP takes a broad view of operations, extending beyond internal operations to encompass the entire supply chain, from supplier, through the company, to the end consumer. CSCP candidates must meet an experience, degree or credential eligibility requirement and pass a written exam.

The Institute for Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM), Certified Hazardous Materials Practitioner (CHMP) certification is a standard of proficiency for front-line hazardous materials workers. The CHMP is intended to enhance regulatory compliance, safety, and overall credibility of operations, and provide recognition to individuals who meet its rigorous requirements. Candidates must meet a combination of education and/or experience requirements and pass a written exam.

The Institute for Supply Management (ISM), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) certification is for supply chain and procurement professionals with skills in areas such as finance, supplier relationship management, organizational global strategy, and risk compliance. Candidates must meet either academic or professional experience to be eligible for the CPSM certification exam. Candidates must take and pass three written exams.

The Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC), The Certified Logistics Technician (CLTAE)recognizes individuals who demonstrate mastery of the core competencies of material handling at the front-line (entry-level through front-line supervisor). The goal of the CLTAE is to raise the level of performance of logistics workers both to assist the individuals in finding higher-wage jobs. The CLTAE consists of two parts: the foundational-level Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) certificate and the mid-level technical CLT certification. Before taking the CLTAE assessment, candidates must have a CLA certificate. MSSC strongly recommends that individuals be at an 8th-grade math and 10th-grade reading level.

The Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC), Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) is a foundational-level certificate and is a prerequisite for the Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) certification. MSSC training and assessment addresses the need for employability and academic skills as well as technical skills. There are no experiential or hands-on requirements for MSSC certification as it is expected that individual employers will determine those requirements based upon their own specific needs. MSSC evaluates basic computer, analytical and problem-solving skills. Critical work functions and their related key activities for the CLA include: global supply chain logistics life cycle, logistics environment, material handling equipment, safety principles, safe material handling and equipment operation, quality control principles, workplace communications, teamwork and workplace behavior to solve problems, and using computers. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), SCPro Level One - Cornerstones of Supply Chain Management certification is an entry-level credential for supply chain professionals who can demonstrate a solid foundation of knowledge in all eight elements of supply chain management. Candidates must meet either an academic or experience requirement to be eligible for the SCPro Level One - Cornerstones of Supply Chain Management exam. Candidates must pass a written exam.
