MOS 0111 Administrative Specialist

MOS Description

Administrative Specialist responsibilities include the management of administrative and clerical functions in the areas of general administration, personnel administration, operational administration, and manpower administration. The required qualifications include basic clerical and communication skills. Administrative Specialists are required to learn administrative procedures and processes, pay and personnel information, preparation of orders and directives, correspondence, and the use and maintenance of filing systems. There are a wide variety of billets available in this MOS ranging from duty at the staff level in the operational, garrison, joint duty assignments and the opportunity to serve on independent duty in support of the Selected Marine Corps Reserve (SMCR).

The Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification is designed for big-picture thinkers responsible for planning rather than implementing HR policy. SPHR candidates possess mastery of the strategic and policy-making aspects of HR management as practiced in the U.S., such as accountability for HR department goals, breadth and depth of knowledge in all HR disciplines, and understanding business issues beyond the HR function. Candidates must meet a combination of experience and education requirements and pass a written exam.

The Institute of Certified Professional Managers (ICPM), Certified Manager (CM) is a general management certification. While it is appropriate for supervisors, managers, and leaders at all levels, in any industry, it is not necessary to hold a management title to earn the certification. Designed for those with less project experience, the CAPM demonstrates an understanding of the fundamental knowledge, terminology and processes of effective project management such as initiation, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, closing, and professional and social responsibility. Candidates must meet educational requirements and pass an exam.

The American Education Certification Association (AECA), Certified Computer Skills Specialist credential validates the skills of individuals that work in an office using computers to perform daily routine tasks and duties. Certified Computer Skills Specialists handles all the basic tasks to run the office efficiently, this includes, operating a computer, typing, using basic software’s such as word processing, data management using spreadsheets, file management, drafting presentations, installing and uninstalling software’s, downloading and uploading documents, email management, web browsing and navigation, using e-commerce websites, printing documents, scanning documents, maintaining computer security, an troubleshooting basic problem related to computer functions and the internet. Candidates must meet academic, training, or work experience requirements to be eligible for the Certified Computer Skills Specialist examination. Candidates must pass a written exam.
